Birth Stories

Baby Millie
She’s here! Arrived on Friday at 9:38am 7lb 9oz.
I can’t believe I was worried I wouldn’t like her! It was the first thing I said to Tom as they put her skin to skin on me “I really like her”.
It was a plan B birth in the end but all your techniques not only kept me super calm over the 35 hours from waters breaking to arrival. I also felt super prepared & empowered to have the birth I wanted. So when we were laid in triage under the bright lights, sleep deprived at 1am, 27hrs post water’s breaking & the midwife comes in & tells me we’re going to do an augmentation. I had enough about me to say “excuse me what do you mean as I don’t want to be induced”. “Well we'll go & break your remaining waters then put you on the drip”……. Hold your horses sister this isn’t what I want & no you’re not!
So after another lengthy wait to see a doctor we joined the very bottom of the queue for a section. They had endless emergencies that continued to push us back. By early Friday morning I was in the super early stages of labour but nothing my breathing techniques & some paracetamol wasn’t helping me deal with.
I was offered an internal exam & again all our talks kicked in. I said to the midwife, based on my demeanour do you think this baby could be here in the next 4-6hours. She said absolutely not. I said in which case don’t examine me. We’ve got this far without me getting an infection let’s leave alone & head for the section.
I had an incredible section experience. Wonderful team, I stayed calm & I’ve been up & about & able to pick up & feed Millie from the moment the spinal wore off. It was absolutely the right decision for us. Millie has continued to be the calmest easiest baby I could have ever dreamed for. Me & Tom feel so blessed. And although it wasn’t the plan A vaginal birth I thought we'd have, the Hypnobirthing techniques were still just as valuable.
Thank you so much Beth.
Lots of love Sarah Tom & Millie xx
